The Committee of Management is made up of Trustees who are usually recruited from the membership of the Centre, but when a need is identified for people with specific skills, we look for suitable people from outside our ranks. Ideally they should have an insight into the needs of our members. Those who have themselves had cancer, or who have supported others with cancer, have practical experience of what the Centre offers and a good sense of its ethos.
Officers
The committee is headed by three officers: Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.
Our Coordinator attends meetings by invitation, keeping the Trustees informed
about the day to day running issues of the Centre.
Coordinator
Ann Dingley, the Coordinator, has been involved with the centre since 1993. She
has long experience of caring for people with cancer and managing the day to day
operation of the centre.
Our Helpers
We don't recruit volunteers. We find that people who have or have had cancer,
and their families and carers, begin supporting others without being asked to,
and often without realising that is what they are doing. This in itself is
extremely therapeutic.
Tea Makers
We have acquired a reliable and dedicated team of helpers to provide
refreshments to our visitors. They have worked out a rota for themselves and
some of them are enthusiastic self-appointed cleaners, ensuring that our centre
always looks smart.
TATties
In order to keep on top of the paperwork that is necessary to keep our
therapists' records in order, a team of three helpers has evolved, calling
themselves Therapists' Administration Team (dubbed TATties). They check that the
Centre has copies of all the therapists' qualifications and insurance, and note
when records have to be updated. They also update the CRB checks, organise First
Aid courses for therapists as needed and ensure that all the relevant paperwork
is in place before a new therapist joins the Centre.
We have two other people who help to keep all the paperwork in order. One of them looks after the therapists' appointment system, and the other ensures that there are enough treatment forms for the therapists to use.
